It connects with emotion, which is something we all need to be trying to achieve in our story-telling. It's important, however, to realize that if it is a well-known song, the audience will bring their own preconceptions, associations, memories, etc. and these may or may not be the emotions you want to evoke. The best case is to have someone compose music that is created to go with your piece (perhaps connecting with someone at the music school?).
